Rajahmundry: N Surya Raghavendra, assistant professor of department of English at Adikavi Nannaya University, who is facing charges of sexual harassment has been suspended pending an enquiry. Vice-chancellor P Suresh Varma issued the suspension orders on Monday following mounting pressure from students, women’s and students’ organisations.
Varma has constituted a committee to enquire into the allegations of sexual harassment made by female MA students against Raghavendra. The committee comprises a woman teacher as presiding officer, two faculty members, two non-teaching members, two representatives from NGOs and a university local legal consultant.
Meanwhile, members of women’s and students’ organisations and YSRC leaders assembled in the campus demanding action against Raghavendra. Students of first year MA English have demanded his dismissal. It has also been reported that more than a dozen female students have allegedly have also spoken up against Raghavendra.
