On Monday, the first day of the camp, fishermen were explained about the objectives of the project, which was sanctioned by NABARD under their Umbrella programme for Natural Resource Management) and being implemented through an NGO, SNEHA. The project is being implemented in nine villages in Kruthivennu. It is based on Hub and Spoke model and fashioned in a way to eliminate the role of middlemen, so the net income of the fishermen gets increased.

The NGO implementing the project has organised the fishermen community into village-level committees. Each committee consists of 100 to 400 members. All the nine village committees form a federation – Sagar Samruddhi Mutually Aided Cooperative Society, registered under MACS Act. The village committees maintain books of accounts and they were provided with training on management, marketing and grading of fish produce.
