Andhra Pradesh: Six women pilgrims killed, 7 injured on way to temple

Rajahmundry: Six women were killed and seven others were injured when an autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a speeding lorry at Modekurru of Kothapeta mandal in East Godavari early on Saturday. A three-year-old girl survived unhurt.

Police said the women and the girl hailing from Allavaram had hired the autorickshaw to go to the lord Venkateswara temple at Vadapalli, 60 km away. Devotees believe that having darshan at the temple for seven consecutive Saturdays would fulfil their wishes. The women were visiting the temple for the fourth Saturday when the mishap occurred. While Pilla Harishitha survived, her mother Pilla Bhavani was killed.
