Two men were feared drowned in Vasishta river, a tributary of Godavari, in the border area between Teeparru and Kakaraparru villages of Peravali mandal in West Godavari on Wednesday.
Rajahmundry: Two men were feared drowned in Vasishta river, a tributary of Godavari, in the border area between Teeparru and Kakaraparru villages of Peravali mandal in West Godavari on Wednesday. According to Peravali police, seven friends from West Godavari arrived at Teeparru to spend some time for fun as part of Karthika Masam. They proceeded to Kakaraparru and went deep into plantations on Godavari bund.
They had lunch together and allegedly consumed beer. Three men entered the river. After staying in the water for some time near the bund where the depth is only knee-deep, they proceeded deeper into the river where its depth is about nine feet. They witnessed sudden depth in the river bed, two slipped and fell down and started screaming for help. They were identified as Arkati Upendra, 29, from Velpuru village of Tanuku mandal and Pulagam Tarun Kumar Reddy, 24 from Mudunurupadu of Pentapadu mandal in West Godavari. Third man identified as Chadalavadi Srikanth tried to rescue them but in vain. He swam to the shore safely. Four men watching the duo getting drowned in the river alerted the locals and the police who in turn rushed there and started search operation when the last reports came in. Police booked a case and investigation is on.
