Hyderabad: The South Zone Task Force along with the Kanchanbagh police unearthed a marijuana smuggling racket and arrested 11 persons here on Friday. Police seized 175 kilos of marijuana and two cars together worth Rs 25 lakh from them.
The arrested persons included G Veerabhadram; Naresh Kumar; Trinadh; Nazeer Basha; N Biswas and six others.
According to police, Veerabhadram, a resident of Hayathnagar, was earlier arrested by the Osmania University police along with one Kanthaiah for transporting marijuana from Sileru to Hyderabad. While in Rajahmundry Central jail, he developed contacts with other drug peddlers and had created a network of about 500 persons. He was released on bail recently.
In the first week of February, Naresh supplied 40 kilos of marijuana in a car. Veerabhadram also contacted Biswas of Malkangiri, whose brother Neelkanth was arrested by East Godavari police for transporting marijuana and was currently in the Rajahmundry Central Prison.
The gang was selling the drug in Hyderabad and Maharashtra, police said.
