Rajahmundry: Former TDP MLA and Kapu leader Thota Thrimurtulu has quit TDP. The East Godavari leader announced the decision during a meeting with his followers at his native village Venkataya Palem on Friday. Sources said Thota is likely to join the ruling YSR Congress on September 18. Though Thota has a long political rivalry with deputy CM Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, the YSRC leadership is believed to have convinced Pilli Bose to take Thota into the party keeping the upcoming local body elections in mind.
Known for shifting loyalties, Thota won the assembly elections from Ramachandrapuram constituency four times — twice as a TDP candidate, once as Congress nominee and once as an independent. The biggest blot in his political career is the alleged tonsure of two dalits at Venkataya Palem in 1996. He was one of the accused in that case. TNN
