A container, transporting Hyundai cars, fell into Eastern Delta Canal of Gowtami River, at Jonnada village, near Alamuru, in the East Godavari district on Monday. Two persons were killed in the accident.
The container was carrying cars from Chennai to Odisha when the mishap occurred. The driver of the heavy vehicle lost control and it fell into the canal from the bridge.
The deceased have been identified as — driver Md. Danesh Haque (19), native of Raturi, West Bengal, and cleaner Sk. Obaidul (18), — who were trapped in the cabin died in the mishap.
East Godavari Superintendent of Police (SP) Adnan Nayeem Asmi said the bodies were shifted to Rajamahendravaram Government General Hospital for preservation., and information has been passed to the bereaved family members.
A case was registered, the SP said.
