A car plunged into the left main canal of Vamsadhara river in Srikakulam district on the early hours of Friday. Two of the five people travelling in the car have died. The deceased have been identified as Pavan and B Chandramohan. Both of them are employees of Visakhapatnam-based Coromandel Fertilizers, according to the local police.
Pavan was a resident of Rajahmundry while Chandramohan hailed from Khammam. The three others in the car— M Maheshwara Rao, S Durga Naga Praveen and Venkatagiri Prasad sustained minor injuries. Hiranmandalam police said that a group of ten people had gone to Centurion University in Parlakhamundi in Odisha to attend a meeting. The group was travelling in two cars, with five people in each car. While on their way back, the car plunged into the canal in the dark.
While the three people who survived managed to swim to land, two— those who died got stuck in the car and eventually drowned. Hiramandalam police led by sub-inspector K Govinda Rao reached the spot to fish-out the bodies and the car. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.tnn
