Andhra Pradesh: Two killed after car plunges into Vamsadhara canal

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two persons were killed after the car they were travelling in fell into the left main canal of Vamsadhara river in Srikakulam district in the early hours of Friday. Five persons were in the car at the time of the incident.
The deceased were identified as Pavan and B Chandramohan, employees of Visakhapatnam based Coromandel Fertilizers, according to local police.
Pavan is a native of Rajahmundry while Chandramohan hailed from Khammam. The three others who escaped with minor injuries were identified as M Maheswara Rao, S Durga Naga Praveen and Venkatagiri Prasad.
Speaking to TOI, Hiramandalam police said that on Thursday around 10 people went to Parlakhemundi in neighbouring Odisha to attend a meeting held at the Centurian University.
While returning to Visakhapatnam on Thursday mid-night, the ill-fated car plunged into the canal instead of taking right route near the Gotta barrage, the police said.
Three persons of the car managed to swim out of the water, while the two drowned.
On being informed, nearby Hiramandalam police including sub-inspector K Govinda Rao reached the spot to fish-out the bodies and the car.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem.
