Why was the letter unsigned, asks Adikavi varsity vice-chancellor

Rajahmundry: Vice-chancellor of Adikavi Nannaya University, Prof P Suresh Varma, has said that while the sexual harassment complaint against a teacher of the varsity is being looked into seriously, there are reasons to suspect the motive.
Varma said this while addressing a media conference at the university on Saturday, a day after three students accused the head of the varsity’s English department, N Surya Raghavendra, of sexual harassment.
Listing down the reasons, he said the letter alleged that the students, of the 2017-2019 batch, did not complain to Varma because of Raghavendra’s ‘close friendship’ with him. “But I was not even the vice-chancellor of the university during that academic year,” Varma said.
Secondly, he pointed out that the letter was unsigned. Moreover, when the head of the varsity’s women’s cell called the complainants, the calls went unanswered. However, he said notwithstanding the doubts, a comprehensive inquiry will be undertaken and action will be taken against those found guilty. Stating that the allegations of sexual harassment have been affecting the image of the university,
Varma said the fact-finding team will meet once again on Monday and another high-level committee will be constituted to inquire into the matter. Raghavendra’s colleagues and alumni of the college in the last four years will be questioned as well, he said.
