Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad officials on Wednesday seized 962 kg ganja worth Rs 1.92 crore and arrested two illegal transporters.
According to DRI officials, based on specific intelligence that prohibited narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, the officials intercepted a goods carriage vehicle coming from Bhadrachalam towards Zaheerabad at Duddeda crossroads in Siddipet.
Allegedly the transporters claimed that they were carrying coconut and guava saplings.
Suspecting foul play the officers boarded the vehicle and noticed that certain brown coloured jute gunny bags were concealed beneath the load of plants emanating strong odour.
On searching the vehicle, the officials found 477 packets of ganja covered concealed in brown bags under the plants.
They seized the banned narcotic drug under NDPS Act, 1985. Officials said the contraband was allegedly brought from Rajahmundry area.
