TDP withstood the onslaught of many ‘forces’, says Naidu

Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Saturday that the party withstood the onslaught of many “forces,” especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), during the recent elections, and exuded confidence that it would romp home with an overwhelming majority.

‘Evil designs’

People were angry that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao troubled the TDP leaders, Mr. Naidu said. Mr. Modi tried his best to damage the TDP, but it bounced back and gave its rivals a tough time at the hustings, he added. Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao was part of the conspiracy, but the TDP thwarted his “evil designs,” Mr. Naidu observed.

Speaking at a review meeting on the voting pattern in the Rajamahendravaram Lok Sabha constituency and the voting arrangements, at a private function hall near here, Mr. Naidu said the YSRCP’s claim that it would take over the reigns was part of its mind game.

The YSRCP and the BJP tried all the tricks in the book to reduce the polling percentage and spoil the electoral prospects of the TDP but to no avail, as people realised their conspiracy and turned up in huge numbers to cast their votes, Mr. Naidu said. The impressive voter turnout augured well for the TDP, he asserted.

Mr. Naidu claimed that while the TRS MLAs were grilled during electioneering, those of the TDP were welcomed as they won the goodwill of the voters. People were convinced that the TDP should be back if the State were to continue on the growth path, Mr. Naidu said. Had the TDP snapped its ties with the BJP much earlier, the State government would have faced more trouble, he observed.

‘Surveys favour TDP’

In a separate review of the voting pattern in the Rajamahendravaram city and rural Assembly constituencies, Mr. Naidu said the surveys were in favour of the TDP. He called upon the cadres to work with the same spirit for the elections to the local bodies. Addressing the media, MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said Mr. Naidu enquired about the cadres who gave their best and who were responsible for the poor show, and wanted them to guard against irregularities in the process of counting votes on May 23.
