Maredumilli: Unwind in The Lap of Nature in The Andhra Village

If unwinding amidst dense, semi-evergreen forests is your idea of a holiday, Maredumilli, about 87 kilometres from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh is your answer. It’s a place best suited for nature lovers; for those who are forever intrigued by rivers, rapids and waterfalls.

Maredumilli also has a distinct tribal lifestyle typical to the region. Camping here, especially during the monsoons, is a must, when the valleys are replete with lush greenery.

Among the many waterfalls here, Jalatarangini Waterfalls tops the list. The best way to experience it is after a bike ride and a short hike; the cascading waterfalls situated some ten kilometres from the main town.

Then there are the Swarnadhara Waterfalls and Rampa Waterfalls, perfect examples of nature’s wondrous bounty. Swarnadhara falls are surrounded by huge mango trees with trunks as big as those of banyan trees. The best way to reach them is after a steep trek through the deep woods. Rampa falls, however, can be reached by a jeep ride. There’s a huge variety of medicinal plants, bamboo trees and shrubs that are found in the region.

If you’re interested in an immersive experience in botany, a visit to Karthikavanam and the Vali Sugriva Medicinal Plants Conservation Area is a must. The conservation area is home to 203 species of medicinal plants; the most rampant being Amla (Gooseberry trees) and Maredu (Bael).

For a peaceful picnic with loved ones, visit Madanikunj-Vihara Sthal, a retreat into the lap of nature. From gorgeous flora such as pine trees and golden bamboo to exotic fauna such as tiger, bison, panther, jungle fowl, and peacock – you’ll be blown away by its beauty.

Maredumilli is well-connected to cities such as Kakinada, Vizag and Hyderabad. Travellers usually come for a day trip and leave in the evening. It takes about fours hours to get here from Vishakhapatnam.
