Collector says crimes against women will be dealt with sternly

Rajamahendravaram (AP), Apr 17 (PTI) Collector of East Godavari district, Kartikeya Misra has said stringent action will be taken against those committing atrocities on women and girls.

The Collector issued the warning during a meeting with District Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni here last night.

? “The State government will take stringent action on those involved in such crimes,” he said, and asked the police to take immediate action on the perpetrators.

? Also, he sought speed disposal of cases in order to curb crime.

He asked the police to register an?FIR without delay in cases of dowry harassment and SC/ST atrocities.

? The meeting discussed, among others, the Domestic Violence Act 2006, SC and ST Atrocities Act and steps to be taken for protection of tribals under the Act, said the Collector.

Training has been given to the policemen to deal with offences against women and girls in the district, he said.

In dowry harassment cases, counselling has been given to the persons involved, he said, adding that stern action would also be taken on incidents of kidnapping.
