RMC ensures water supply twice a day in summer

Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation Commissioner V. Vijayarama Raju has said that the RMC will ensure water supply twice a day to all the 50 divisions in its limits during this summer.

Speaking to The Hindu on summer action plan, Mr. Raju said: “The city is already getting 65 million litres per day (MLD) and the corporation kept Kotilingala reservoir ready to add 10 more MLD for supply to four divisions which are going to get water daily for second time.”

During the Godavari Pushkarams in 2015, the RMC decided to construct three Elevated Storage Reservoirs (ESR) in the city and completed two in the last two years and trial run was over.

He stated that the third one would be completed by mid April and ready to supply water from all ESRs.

Quality water

The Commissioner said that the RMC had been supplying quality water and there was no need for using mineral water bottles.

Top priority

Mr. Raju said the corporation was giving top priority to supplying quality drinking water and it would look into the complaints of drain and drinking water pipelines running parallel and leakage from them in some areas like one town.

He said the RMC was replacing small thickness pipes with high density lines in the problematic areas.

Plastic waste

He further said the corporation was adopting the mechanised removal of plastic waste at Nalla channel which was shown to top officials from Swacch Andhra Mission and they were impressed with it and sanctioned Rs. 1.50 crore to get another machine at Ava channel.

Replying to a question, he said that at present the RMC has 30 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant and would soon get 5 MLD plant at Dowleswaram under Amruth scheme.

One more plant with 10 MLD capacity would be installed after the government releases funds, he added.
