Rajahmundry: Several women corporators led by Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai staged a novel protest called ‘Jala Deeksha’ by standing in the Godavari river for some time demanding that the Centre should accord special category status to AP and fulfill all provisions incorporation in AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 and also assurances made on floor of Rajya Sabha here on Wednesday.
A large number of women along with women corporators and Mayor took out a rally from Azad Chowk to Pushkar ghat and garlanded the statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar on their way and staged Jala Deeksha in the Godavari river. Speaking on the occasion, Mayor demanded the Centre to sanction special tag to AP, a railway zone, allotment of funds to overcome revenue deficit caused due to bifurcation and others mentioned in the Act, 2014.
She said they would continue their stir in various forms until the Centre takes a decision to provide justice to the state by implementing all provisions in the Act, 2014. A large number of people witnessed the Jala Deeksha at Pushkar ghat and extended their solidarity for the stir.
