Hyderabad: In a major catch, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 594 kg of ganja from a cargo vehicle in Rajamahendravaram on Monday. The price of the contraband is estimated to be Rs 89 lakh. Seven persons, including the supplier, were arrested.
The arrest was done based on specific intelligence that prohibited drugs were being illegally transported. Officers from DRI Vijayawada launched an operation and intercepted an Eicher truck on National Highway-5 in Rajamahendravaram in in AP.
On inspecting the vehicle, officials found about 594 kg of ganja. The drug was concealed in the false cavity created on the top portion of the vehicle, police said.
The vehicle was supposed to reach Manmad in Maharashtra. The drug was seized under provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, an official said.
