Man pushes girlfriend into the Godavari

A man allegedly pushed his girlfriend into the Godavari from the Yanam-Edurlanka bridge, near here, in the early hours of Monday. The woman, however, was rescued by local fishermen and was rushed to the Government hospital here.
According to the I. Polavaram police, Nasika Srinivasa Rao, a native of Surasani Yanam, worked in a readymade cloth showroom in Rajamahendravaram, where he reportedly developed friendship with a 26-year-old woman working with a public sector undertaking.
Resistance from parents
Though the couple decided to get married, the family members of Srinivasa Rao allegedly opposed the alliance. Subsequently, the woman started pressuring him to marry her at any cost. On Friday evening, the couple left for Amalapuram from Rajamahendravaram, from where Srinivasa Rao reportedly took her to Yanam on a motorcycle on the pretext of marrying her in Draksharamam temple. He stopped the motorcycle for a while on the Yanam-Edurlanka bridge and took her near the railing.
The police claimed that he allegedly pushed the woman into the Godavari, which the fishermen moving in the river on their fishing boats reportedly saw. They rescued her and rushed her to hospital, the police said, adding that they were on the look out for Srinivasa Rao. The condition of the woman is said to be stable. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
