Annavaram Devasthanam, the adobe of Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swami, will be celebrating the Telugu New Year’s Day honouring the Godavari, the lifeline of lakhs of farmers in East and West Godavari districts. Annavaram temple executive officer Eeranki Venkata Jagannatham planned the programme for “Manmadhanamaa Ugadi Day” at Pushkara ghat.Addressing a media conference on Thursday, Mr. Jagannatham said that keeping in mind the spiritual and cultural ethos of the Godavari, different programmes had been planned from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. He said Sri Satyanarayana Swami Pooja followed by Panchanga Sravanam, Santhi Kalyanam, Godavari Aarthi, Kavitha Gosti, felicitation to scholars, spiritual discourses and other cultural events would be held on Saturday. The cultural events included Gangireddula Melam, kolatam, tappetagoollu, garaga dance and others.The Executive Officer said that the temple management would felicitate Sanskrit scholars Chirravuri Srirama Sarma and “Maha Mahopadhyaya” and President of India Awardee Viswanatha Gopalakrishna. Replying to a query, Mr. Jagannatham said that the scholar for “Panchanga Sravanam”, the custom of Ugadi, had not yet been finalised.Asked about Devasthanam’s contribution to forthcoming Pushkarams, he said the temple would spend Rs. 2 crore to add some more infrastructure facilities like bathrooms, toilets and additional accommodation on the Ratnagiri hilltop where Annavaram Swami is located. Arrangements were being made to perform close to 6,000 Satyanarayana Vratams at the temple on 12-days of Pushkarams when 80,000 pilgrims were expected to come for darshan on daily basis.
