Shuttlers Meiraba, Samarendra and Shanti Kumar feted

Imphal, January 05 2020: Manipur’s ace shuttler Meiraba who had a wonderful journey last year along with recipients of “Life Time Achievement Appreciation Award”, I Shanti Kumar, Section Officer, Manipur Secretariat and Y Samarendra, Director, Manipur Legislative Assembly, were felicitated by Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) today in a simple function at Indoor Hall, DM College Campus.

The felicitation programme was graced by Y Joykumar, president, MBA; G Chittaranjan Sharma, National badminton referee; H Gyaneshor Singh, international referee and Chaoba Singh, former MBA secretary as presidium members who also handed out presents to the young and veteran athletes.

It may be recalled that I Shanti Kumar and Y Samarendra were honoured recently with Life Time Achievement Appreciation Awards during All India Civil Services Badminton Tournament 2019-20 held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat from December 27, 2019 to January 2, 2020 under the aegis of Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board Department of Personnel and Training, Govt of India for their outstanding achievements in the All India Civil Services Badminton Tournaments and other International events.

On the other hand, Maisnam Meiraba Luwang had a glorious season last year and made the State and the country proud by clinching three international titles which include U-19 Men’s Singles title at the White Knight, Russia Open International Championships held at Russia from July 4 to 7; Woncheon Yonex Korea Junior International Challenge held from Nov 27 to Oct 3 and Yonex Sunrise Bangladesh Junior International Series held from Dec 18 to 22 at Dhaka.

Besides leading the India’s junior team campaigns in Badminton Asia Junior Championship held at Suzhou China (July 20-28) and BWF World Junior Championships held at Pune, Meiraba earned bronze medals in the Yonex -Singha- Roza-BTY Junior International Challenge 2019 held at Bangkok; Bulgarian Jr International Badminton Championships held at Pazardzhik City, Bulgaria (Aug 8-11) and Singapore Youth International-2019 (Nov 18 to 24) .

Meiraba who fetched a silver medal at the Yonex Sunrise India Junior Grand Prix International Badminton Champ- ionships held at Pune, also shone at the National events and managed 6 U-19 singles titles.

Meiraba took off his National campaign in 2019 by winning the U-19 boys singles title at the All India XVII Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament (Jan 15-20) and went on to claim the title of All India Jr Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Vijaywada (Jan 22 to 27).Meiraba then claimed his second National title in the All India Jr Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Chennai (May 21 to 26) before collecting more titles at All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Trivandrum (May 28 to June 2); 28th SMT Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Jr Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh (Aug 13 to 18) and Yonex Sunrise 44th Inter State National Badminton Championships at Rajahmundry, AP (Dec 26 to 30) .
