IMPHAL, Dec 30 : Manipur’s Maisnam Meiraba Luwang who recently won the men’s singles title at the Bangladesh Junior International Badminton Series 2019 held in Dhaka, capped this year’s campaign on a illustrious note by winning men’s singles title at Yonex-Sunrise 44th Inter State – Inter Zonal & Junior Nationals. Manipur’s Bidyasagar on the other hand finished third to win contend with a bronze medal at the same championship.
In the title match of the championship held since December at Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh under the aegis of Badminton Association of India, Meiraba got the better of Air India’s Rohan Gurbani 21-18, 21-17.
Meiraba defeated Rithin B of Telangana 21-18, 21-11 in the first round and outlasted Pranay Katta of Rajasthan 22-20, 21-18 in the second round.
In the third round, the Manipuri shuttler overwhelmed Tukum LAA of Arunachal Pradesh 21-10, 21-16 to book a place in the quarter final. Meiraba then held off Ravi of Haryana 21-17, 13-21, 21-11 to set up semi-final date with Sai Charan of Air India where in he came out on top with 22-20, 21-17 finish.
