Kakinada: District Collector D Muralidhar Reddy said that establishment of Faecal Sledge Treatment Plants (FSTP) in urban local bodies is crucial for maintaining better sanitation in the district.
Reviewing the progress of Swachh Survekshan programme implementation in the district at the Collectorate on Friday, he said that FSTPs were sanctioned in 7 municipalities and three more civic bodies would be sanctioned soon.
He directed the Municipal Commissioners to start establishing units in the municipalities where the units were sanctioned and identify the lands for others. He directed the DPO to ensure proper functioning of solid waste management units.
The Collector also directed the Municipal Commissioners to sanction Aadhaar enabled pensions to old aged in the shelters. Municipal Commissioners of Rajamahendravaram and Kakinada Abisakthi Kishore and K Ramesh and Joint Collector 2 G Rajakumari were present.
