Govt plans to boost river, agri-tourism

Rajahmundry: Tourism projects will be classified in three categories, including regional, national and global and basic infrastructure facilities will be provided to at tourist hotspots, said minister for tourism Muttamsetty Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday.
He said this at the Regional Tourism Investors and Stakeholders’ meet, which was organised under the aegis of the tourism department of Andhra Pradesh with support of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry federation in Rajahmundry.
Addressing the gathering, Srinivasa Rao said that investors will be encouraged with liberal policies. Agri-tourism projects will be taken up as agriculture is the main stay in the state and added that agri-tourism circuits will be formulated with Konaseema and Narsapuram as centers.
He maintained that basic tourism facilities will be provided linking Nallamala forest, Dandakaranyam, Eastern Ghats, sea coast, Godavari and Krishna rivers. He further said that tourism projects are being planned with the objective of providing security, livelihood and jobs. He directed officials to set up tourism guides for every district.
He revealed that river tourism will be initiated in the state by setting up eight command control centres and added that revenue officials, police, water resources, disaster management and tourism department’s machinery will be available in these command control centres.
He said that the licences of 300 boats are being examined and training will be provided to drivers and boatmen in Hyderabad and Pune. He said that certificates will be issued on December 10 in Kakinada by conducting tests and steps will be taken to provide insurance. As there are many ancient temples in East Godavari district, he said that temple tourism will be developed with the support of Rajahmundry airport.
