Cheated by conmen, 3 of doc family commit suicide in AP

AMALAPURAM: A leading orthopaedic surgeon, his wife and doctor-son committed suicide here on Friday after allegedly cheated by three conmen, who promised to double the money. The police suspect that the surgeon had also invested in real estate with money borrowed from private lenders at a high interest rate. East Godavari superintendent of police Adnan Nayeem Asmi told TOI that the police are looking into various reasons for the suicide pact including duping by conmen.
Dr Penmetsa Ramakrishnam Raju, 55, a popular bone specialist in Konaseema region, his wife Lakshmi Devi, 45, and son Dr Krishna Sandeep, 25, were found dead in their home. An empty bottle of anaesthesia was found near the bodies. Raju’s younger son, Vamsi Krishna, is a medico. The family had been reportedly planning the suicide pact for the past two months. Raju had called Vamsi Krishna, who is pursuing MBBS in a private medical college in Rajahmundry, to join the family on Thursday night. However, Krishna did not turn up.
