Rakul Preet Singh lands key role in Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2

Actress Rakul Preet Singh is the latest addition to the ensemble cast of Shankar’s Indian 2, which is finally slated to go on the floors from 19 August in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. The film marks the return of actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan as the septuagenarian vigilante Senapathy.

It was announced late last year that Kajal Aggarwal would play the leading lady in Indian 2 and the makers are in the process of finalizing the rest of the cast.

The most exciting phase of my career: Kajal Aggarwal on Sita and Indian 2

The latest update is that apart from Rakul Preet, the makers have signed on Siddharth, Aishwarya Rajesh and Priya Bhavani Shankar to essay pivotal roles in the film, which will be bankrolled by Lyca Productions.

Talking to The Times of India newspaper, Rakul Preet Singh said: “It’s a sequel to one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema and I’m really kicked about being a part of it. I was excited when I was offered the role because it’s a Shankar-Kamal Haasan combination and getting a chance to work with legends like that so early in my career is an opportunity I did not want to miss. Though I am yet to sign it officially, I’m looking forward to start shooting for it.”

News about Indian 2 was first announced during the first season of the Tamil edition of Bigg Boss, which was hosted by Kamal Haasan.

The film, being planned on a lavish budget, is to be shot predominantly abroad and it is believed that the makers have zeroed in on Taiwan and the Ukraine for most of the filming, apart from Hyderabad and Chennai.

Lyca Productions took over the reins of the project from producer Dil Raju after he chose to opt out for reasons unknown. The film will be simultaneously made in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.
