‘Govt. plans total shift to natural farming by 2024’

Highlighting the need for more and more farmers taking up zero-budget natural farming (ZBNF), Principal Secretary to the State government (Agriculture) B. Rajasekhar on Monday said that the objective of the government to ensure that the entire cultivation would be in ZBNF mode by the year 2024.

“It is the need of the hour to minimise the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. These chemicals are not only increasing the input costs, but also resulting in the environmental degradation in the long run,” he said while addressing a seminar organised by the Agriculture Department at Rajamahendravaram.

Observing that there had been a steady increase in the yield in the farm fields of farmers who had shifted to the ZBNF a couple of years ago, he said that good yield could be achieved by using the natural fertilizers and pesticides, besides protecting the health of the soil and the environment.

Commissioner of Agriculture Muralidhar Reddy, district Collector Kartikeya Misra, advisor to the Agriculture department T. Vijay Kumar, Commissioner of Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation Sumit Kumar and other officials were present.
