Jaya Prada and Azam Khan have been on warring terms for almost a decade now. Jaya Prada entered politics in 1994 when she joined the Telugu Desam Party on the invitation of N.T Rama Rao. Prada hails from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. Two years later she was nominated to Rajya Sabha representing the state of Andhra Pradesh.
However, differences with the then TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu made her quit TDP and join the Samajwadi Party under the guidance of Azam Khan.
In the 2004 General elections, she contested the Loksabha elections from Rampur with a Samajwadi Party ticket. It is said that Azam Khan was instrumental in her joining the party and it was he who got her the Loksabha ticket. Things however changed when she switched her loyalties to Amar Singh camp, which was opposed to Azam Khan. Since then Azam Khan considers her a rival and has been extremely critical of her.

In the 2009 Loksabha Elections, Azam Khan openly campaigned against her and made all efforts to ensure her defeat. Jaya Prada accused Azam Khan of distributing CD’s with her morphed images and videos and of using extremely derogatory words for her. Azam Khan’s efforts didn’t yield results as Prada won the elections albeit with a lesser margin than in 2014.
She was expelled from the Samajwadi party along with Amar Singh in 2010 for indulging in anti-party activities.
