As Godavari Pushkaralu draws near with just 10 days left, the poor quality of works being taken up at pushkar ghats is becoming a major concern for the TS government. In a hurry to complete the works quickly, the quality has been compromised.
Endowments minister A. Indrakaran Reddy has come under fire from all quarters for not ensuring good quality works for the pushkaralu.
The ghats that were built and the roads that were laid are getting damaged by the rains even before pushkaralu, which is scheduled to be held from July 14 to 25 .
Nearly `600 crore was allotted for the pushkaralu but the works remain unsatisfactory. A recent visit by senior officials of R&B, panchayat raj and endowments departments to various pushkar ghats in Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Khammam disctricts revealed sub-standard works even at VIP ghats.
Though Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had announced two months ago that he would take a dip at Dharmapuri in Karimangar, the works there remain incomplete so far.
It was found that a drainage from Dharmapuri, which is known as Varanasi of South, has been polluting the Godavari river and officials have not taken corrective measures so far.
“While the Centre is implementing programme to clean rivers, the state government is sitting silent over pollution in Godavari,” said G. Kishan Reddy, TS BJP president, who visited pushkar ghats in some districts.
