RTC and railways plan spl services ahead of Dasara rush

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and Indian Railways has decided to run special services to meet the extra rush of passengers for the Dasara season beginning in the first week of October.
Every Dasara, there is a rush of passengers from cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai and Bangalore to Visakhapatnam city, while Visakhapatnam railway station and Dwaraka bus station handle the rush of passengers travelling shorter distances, such as from Rajahmundry, Bheemavaram, Amalapuram, Parvathipuram, Kakinada, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.
RTC Visakhapatnam regional manager MY Danam said that nearly 800 additional buses will be plying along various routes in the city during the festival season. A total of 632 buses were run last Dasara and the number this year has been increased based on feedback last year.
The 800 additional buses include 87 to Hyderabad, 250 to Vijayawada and 200 each to Sompeta and Palakonda in Srikakulam district, Danam added. “We will operate the special buses from October 4 to 14. Passengers can reserve their tickets,” Danam told TOI.
The official website of the corporation, www.apsrtconline.com, can be used to book tickets and passengers can also book tickets through travel agents and at bus stations, he said, and added that for more details, passengers can contact 9100109731.
Meanwhile, Sunil Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager, Waltair division, said that the railways will operate more than 30 special trains to key destinations from Visakhapatnam railway station for the forthcoming Dasara season.
A new train, Uday Express, will also operate between Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada from September 26 and will benefit passengers travelling between the two cities, said a senior railway official. The train will run five days a week with effect from September 26. On the day of inauguration, the train will run as a special express, train number 02701 Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, with open timings.
