Prisoners from Rajahmundry been tested HIV+

Reportedly the Andhra Pradesh High Court has taken serious cognizance of the issue of 29 prisoners lodged in the Rajahmundry Central Prison who were reportedly tested HIV positive. Meanwhile AP High Court Acting Chief Justice C praveen Kumar and Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy have asked the Rajahmundry Central Prison authorities to present a report in this regard on Friday.

Furthermore deputy Superintendent of Rajahmundry Central Prison, S raja Rao told media persons that all the HIV positive tested inmates had the disease prior to coming to the jail and they have been shifted to a separate barrack. When talking about their treatment, Rao said that the prisoners are undergoing treatment and the Rajahmundry Central Prison spends Rs three lakh per month on the medical expenditure of the patients and the prison is not currently facing any financial crunch.

Moreover Rao assured that none of the prisoners are involved in any illegal activities and in a report in a leading daily, Medical Superintendent and District Coordinator of APVVP, Dr T Ramesh kishore said that only 21 out of the 29 inmates were HIV positive, rest eight got infected after entering the prison.
