AR-based app fast turning popular

An out-of-the box approach named ‘ABC Learn’ developed by a city-based startup for children in the age group of 3 to 7 is fast catching up among various schools in the city and a few located in Rajamahendravaram and Pune.

After beta version, the founders of the startup floated by Ram Mukkavilli, who did B.Tech from IIT-Madras and MS from Auburn University in Alabama, have applied for trademark.

They have developed 16 concepts to explain 300 plus words by using 3D technology.

Mr. Mukkavilli, after working for various companies for 20 years in the U.S. in machine learning, ERP systems and data analytics, returned to his native place Visakhapatnam to do something different two years ago.

Before shifting to India, he also had some exposure in Montessori methods followed in the U.S.

With the help of a six-member team drawn from various fields, AIMXCEL Innovative Solutions launched the final product in July, 2017. Today they are providing fun-based learning to 32 schools in Visakhapatnam and eight schools in Rajamahendravaram extending the easy learning method in English to an estimated 4,000 students. Now work is on to develop the Telugu and the Hindi versions and Spanish version for some clients in the U.S.

“Our concept is based on the fact that reading to the mind and exercise is to the body. Instead of by-rote learning, we wanted to popularise an interesting method for the young children,” Mr. Mukkavilli told The Hindu .

The experiments by the startup confirmed that AR-enabled content makes the child more active and engage better with the content. This also helps them retain the knowledge for good. The immersive exposure to 300 plus words enables them to overcome any fear of reading and motivates them to become explorer of knowledge.

Recalling their success story, Mr. Mukkavilli said “after engaging children using the flashcards and mobile app, we then moved to test this in playschools. The feedback from schools resulted in the development of 10 concept series that have been adopted in various schools in Visakhapatnam and Rajamahendravaram.”
