RTA promotes online services in East Godavari

Rajahmundry: Road Transport Authority (RTA) officials in East Godavari are advising government departments, APSRTC, managements of private educational institutions and those who use more number of vehicles to avail online facility for payment of taxes, getting fitness certificate for their vehicles, renewal of driving license and for other services on their portal instead of visiting the RTA offices and waiting in queues for long hours.

The RTA authorities are writing letters to all stakeholders informing them about the availability of online services on the transport department’s web portal ‘aprta.epragathi.org’ advising them to avail such facility. Those who intend to avail online service require a computer or a smart mobile phone with Internet accessibility and a device to read thumb impression to match with Aadhaar biometrics beside a credit or debit card or a digital wallet to pay fee.

Out of nearly 83 services being offered by the state transport department, about 45 have been made online recently. Some of the online services include booking a slot for getting learner’s driving license (LLR) and driving test for obtaining permanent driving license for a stipulated period, renewal of driving license, payment of taxes on vehicles on a quarterly basis, getting fitness certificate for vehicles, permit, transfer of ownership, change of address, renewal/cancellation of registration, theft intimation and to get premium numbers for vehicles.

To avail online services for vehicles, however, the vehicle registration certificate number has to be seeded with your Aadhaar number.

RTA authorities intend to train one or two persons from every department or agency or organisation or association for two days on how to avail online services with the transport department’s web portal so that they will take care of the needs of vehicles and employees requiring varied services.

RTAhorities say that they are planning to write to APSRTC officials as they have hundreds of vehicles operating and need to avail varied services ranging from registration to obtaining permit, fitness certificate, payment of taxes and other services. So is the case with drivers who require driving license and their periodical renewal.

Trained persons can help the RTC authorities avail online services with ease at their doorstep instead of visiting the RTA offices and waiting for long time to get their turn to pay taxes or fee to avail various services.

The authorities are also planning to write to municipal corporation and municipalities as they use more vehicles so that they too can avail online services through trained persons.

East Godavari road transport deputy commissioner in-charge V. Siri Anand said, “As several services of our department have become online, we are trying to bring about awareness among all stakeholders by writing letters to them to avail such services with ease instead of visiting our offices and waiting for long time.”
