APSRTC, TSRTC go all out to clear Sankranti rush

The APSRTC and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) officials are taking steps to handle two lakh passengers during the Sankranti festival.

The RTC is deputing 300 officers to Telangana to monitor the situation during the peak days.

Besides Hyderabad-Vijayawada, the RTC has scheduled operations from Vijayawada to Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Nellore and other places.

“We devised pre- and post-Sankranthi plans and a separate plan on Bhogi, Sankranthi and Kanuma days. We will run 463 buses on January 11 and 700 the next day. Besides the 552 regular services to Hyderabad, we plan to operate 5,000 extra buses.”

He said 35,000 passengers had reserved from Hyderabad to Vijayawada on January 12 and an equal number for their return journey on January 15. “All our bookings were closed by January 5.”

RTC Chief Traffic Manager (CTM) K.S. Brahmananda Reddy said the corporation would operate nearly 2,000 buses to various districts from Vijayawada and vice-versa before the festival and 1,500 buses to various destinations in the State.

“The passengers have been requested to download the RTC App http://ift.tt/2CTPzu6 to know the status of their service. We are also sending SMS to the reserved passengers with service number, departure point and time and the Helpline number requesting them to reach the boarding points in advance”, the Chief Traffic Manager told The Hindu.
