RTC to operate special services for Sankranti

A. Ramakrishna, executive director of APSRTC, Vizianagaram zone, has said that the corporation will operate special services for Sankranti from depots in the NEC Region (Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts) to Vijayawada and Hyderabad from January 9 to 13 and in the return direction from January 15 to 18. The corporation is planning to operate at least 65 services to Hyderabad and 50 services to Vijayawada from the NEC region.

Mr. Ramakrishna at a press conference here on Wednesday appealed to passengers to reserve tickets either online or at APSRTC counters in advance.

Mr. Ramakrishna said that as a result of average 6 % growth in OR (occupancy ratio), the corporation was able to minimise losses to ₹43 crore till November from ₹114 crore last year in the Vizianagaram zone, which comprises Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, and East Godavari districts.

New buses

With regard to new fleet of buses, the executive director said that 400 buses in the zone, including 140 in the NEC region, were inducted in place of the over-aged one. In Visakhapatnam city, he said that bus bodies of 100 JNNURM metro services were replaced with new ones.

Earlier, he inaugurated a dispensary that was renovated with ₹8 lakh for the benefit of RTC employees and also breast-feeding centre at the RTC complex for passengers. He said breast-feeding centres were opened at Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle, Kakinada, and Rajahmundry bus terminals for the benefit of lactating mothers.
