GUDA sets time frame for plan approval

The Godavari Urban Development Authority (GUDA) has fixed time frame of seven days from the date of receiving applications for sanction of approvals for house plans as the process turns fully computerised to ensure transparency in transactions, according to its chairman Ganni Krishna.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday after the board meeting, the chairman said: “A false campaign is going on against the GUDA that it takes a lot of time to sanction approvals for the housing plans. We are proud to announce that the GUDA is far ahead of all other urban development authorities in the State with regard to disposing of the pending applications.” Despite challenges like staff shortage and non-availability of sufficient infrastructure, the body was rendering commendable services to the public, he added.

Referring to the statistics, Mr. Krishna said that the GUDA received 895 building plans for the approval from 290 grama panchayats, four municipalities and two municipal corporations ever since its inception. “We have approved 569 plans and rejected 24 plans. Efforts are on to take a decision on the remaining plans very soon,” he said.

Observing that unauthorised layouts were the major issues on which the general body decided to write to the State government seeking its approval to extend the Building Regularisation Scheme to the rural pockets too. In all, the GUDA spent ₹85 lakh on software and approved proposals to pay rent to the building in which the office was housed, recruitment of contract staff and arranging a camp office for the chairman in Rajamahendravaram, while it earned revenues to the tune of about ₹50 lakh, Mr. Krishna said.
