Cong. plans padayatra for Polavaram

Demanding that the Polavaram multi-purpose project must be completed by 2018 as promised by the TDP government, the Congress party would take out a padayatra from January 7 to 9 and hold a ‘deeksha’ at the project site on January 10, A. P. Congress Committee president N. Raghuveera Reddy said here on Tuesday.

At a party meeting of the North Coastal districts organised to mark the 85th birth anniversary of party leader Dronamraju Satyanaryana, he said the padayatras would be taken out from Dowlaiswaram and Rajamahendravaram and all top leaders of the party would participate.

The issue was taken to the notice of party president Rahul Gandhi and Leader of the Congress Party in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and the latter was urged to move it in the House under Rule 184 so that voting would take place and the stand of the TDP and the YSRC moving closely with the BJP would be known, Mr. Reddy said.

The issue was being taken up by K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao in the Rajya Sabha.

The PCC president said it was a Central project sanctioned by the Congress but the cost went up from ₹16,000 crore to ₹58,000 crore. “The project turned into a goldmine of corruption,” he alleged. Whatever the cost it should be completed by 2018 and shifting the deadline to 2019 would amount to cheating people, he said.
