YSRCP decision to boycott House wrong: Vundavalli

Former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar has said the YSR Congress Party’s decision to boycott the Assembly session and take out a padayatra is wrong as it will benefit the ruling TDP.

Addressing the media here on Friday, Mr. Arun Kumar said the Assembly was the right platform to highlight the wrongdoings of the government and corner it on issues such as the Polavaram project and depositing of ₹4,000 in the accounts of Dwacra women before the conduct of the Nandyal byelection.

“People will observe how the ruling and opposition parties behave in the Assembly, and how the government is trying to cover-up its misdeeds. If the YSRCP loses this opportunity, it will be advantageous for the ruling party,” Mr. Arun Kumar said.

He said it was also not correct to compare with former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao. While NTR boycotted the Assembly, the remaining TDP members participated in the session, he added.

Polavarm

Referring to Polavaram, Mr. Arun Kumar asked the government whether it was possible to complete the major irrigation project in just nine months as promised by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

He said 94% concrete work, 12 lakh cubic metres of earth-cum-rockfill dam work, and two cofferdams were yet to be completed if the government were to provide water by gravity through Polavaram by July 2018.

Squarely blaming Mr. Naidu and the Central government for failing to doing anything in the last three years, he said the Centre should take up the responsibility as it was declared a national project.
