Vundavalli’s plea to Sonia

Former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar has urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to insist on a discussion on the implementation of the A.P. Reorganisation Act in Parliament to enable the people to know up to what extent the Centre has helped the State.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday, Mr. Arun Kumar said he had written a letter to Ms. Gandhi on the issue, urging her to take it up under Rule 184.

“If the Centre fails to give an answer on the issue, the Congress can move a no confidence motion, and the TDP and the YSRCP can extend their support to it,” he said.

If the issue was discussed, the people of the State would come to know about the assistance the Centre had extended to Andhra Pradesh and to the Polavaram project, he added.

Polavaram project

“There are hardly 12 months for completion of the cofferdam and supply water through gravity. It is impossible to meet the deadline the State government had set for itself,” Mr. Arun Kumar said.

“When it took 16 months for completion of the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation project, is it possible to complete the construction of the cofferdam and other structures in just 12 months?” he questioned.

“If the State fails to complete the Polavaram project by 2018, it has to pay interest on NABARD loan,” he added.

The former MP suggested to the YSRCP to at least demand a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in which the State’s fiscal and revenue issues, and CAG report on Pattiseema and Polavaram could be discussed in detail.
