Krishnadevaraya university Assistant Registrar in ACB net

Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Saturday trapped G. Venkataswami, Assistant Registrar of Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur, for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from a college management.

According to ACB DSP Meka Sudhakar, there is a distance education study centre of the SK University in MSR Degree College, Munagapaka, near Anakapalle, and about 300 students wrote exams in January.

However, the students found that practical marks were not reflected in their statement which was issued by the university. Immediately they approached the management of the college about this and in turn they brought the issue to the notice of Venkataswami. He demanded ₹1 lakh from the management on behalf of students.

On Saturday, he reached Rajamahendravaram to proceed to Aravalamma Degree College, Korukonda, here to visit the study centre there.

Two officials held

He asked the management along with a few students to meet at a hotel in the city. Before meeting the Assistant Registrar to hand over ₹50,000 as first instalment, the management and students informed the ACB officials. The ACB officials caught Venkataswami red-handed while he was accepting the bribe.

DSP Sudhakar said that the Assistant Registrar will be produced in ACB court, Vijayawada, on Sunday. Kurnool Special Correspondent adds: ACB officials raided a commercial tax checkpost at Kothapalli bypass road in Proddatur and nabbed Kadapa Deputy Commercial Tax Officer Venugopal Reddy and Assistant Commercial Tax Officer Srinivasulu on Friday night for allegedly resorting to irregularities.

Kadapa ACB DSP Nagaraju and Circle Inspectors Sudhakar Reddy and Purushotham raided the checkpost. The DSP said the officials had been collecting money from luggage transport vehicles without giving receipts and seized ₹26,000. A case was registered against the two officials, car driver Ravi and attender Venkatasubbaiah, Mr. Nagaraju said.
