YSRCP leader ‘assaulted’ by SI over parking row

A sub-inspector of the Ramachandrapuram police station allegedly assaulted YSRCP State youth president Jakkampudi Raja on Sunday night and the row was settled after an MLA negotiated with both parties and briefed East Godavari SP Vishal Gunni. A case was registered against SI K. Nagaraju and also on Mr. Raja and a charge memo was issued to the SI.

According to Jakkampudi Raja Viswavandith alias Raja, he parked a vehicle near the Mosque centre as his wife went for shopping on the other side of the road. Meanwhile, SI Nagaraju reached the spot and asked Mr. Raja to move the vehicle away as traffic was getting blocked due to the ongoing road works. Mr. Raja expressed his unwillingness to do so, saying his wife would return in five minutes and had left a four months baby in the vehicle.

Then the SI allegedly removed the vehicle key and asked Mr. Raja to get down from the vehicle. He allegedly dragged and hit the YSRCP leader with a stick on his back and on the hands. Alerted by passersby, Mr. Raja’s wife rushed back to the vehicle and alleged before the media that it was a brutal attack by the police.

Meanwhile, local MLA Thota Trimurtulu was informed about the incident by Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi, central committee member of the YSRCP and mother of Mr. Raja, over the phone from Rajamahendravaram. The MLA reached the station and took serious objection to the ‘rude behaviour’ of the SI. He also briefed about the incident to SP Mr. Vishal Gunni who assured them of action after an inquiry.

DSP of Ramachandrapuram Santosh said that a charge memo was issued to the SI on Monday by the SP.
