Sanitation, drinking waterget focus at RMC meet

The Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) at its meeting held here on Tuesday discussed various issues of the public. The meeting passed off peacefully.

After paying tributes to the corporator, Palli Srinivas, in the old council hall in the morning, the members, led by Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai along with MLAs Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary and Akula Satyanarayana and MLC Somu Veerraju moved to new building. During the question hour, members raised several issues pending for the last several months, including drainage, drinking water, roads, sanitation, maintenance of parks and menace of pigs and dogs in the city.

Medapati Sharmila Reddy, floor leader of YSRCP, expressed dissatisfaction over supply of drinking water and sanitation in the city. Kosuri Chandipriya, representing the 9th division also unhappy with sanitation in her ward. Deputy Mayor Vasireddy Rambabu said that there were 18 parks in the city and all they lack maintenance and anti-socials were creating nuisance in the parks after 7 p.m.

Dwcra loans

Independent members and cooption members Nanduri Venkata Ramana, Gorrela Suresh, Majji Padma and Velugu Kumari stated that Chandranna Beema and Dwcra loans were not reaching the actual beneficiaries. Rayudu Satish, 17th division corporator spoke about water tank maintenance, while 5th division corporator T. Padma asked the Commissioner to restore Kambala Tank. Mayor in her address said that the old council hall with 150 years of history should be protected as a monument and she asked the Chief Minister during his recent visit to convert the hall into a museum. She also said that efforts were being made to get funds from Centre under the Amruth scheme to protect the building with the support of local MLAs and MLCs.

Mr. Chowdary said that officials should take note of the issues raised by members particularly sanitation, drinking water and drainage. He said that he would speak to the Chief Minister on getting more funds for the corporation.
