Baby dies in GGH, family alleges doctor’s negligence; inquiry ordered

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Rajamahendravaram GGH medical superintendent Dr T Ramesh Kisore has clarified that an inquiry had been ordered into the negligence of gynaecologist Vishnuvardhini and a report would be submitted in two days’ time. It is alleged that due to the negligence of Vishnuvardhini, G Sridevi of Alcot Gardens area in the city, lost her child on Thursday. Sridevi was admitted to GGH on Tuesday and she was supposed to be operated on Wednesday. Sources said that due to the negligence of doctors and other staff, the case sheet of Sridevi went missing.

On Thursday morning, Sridevi suspected that the movements of the unborn child stopped and her relatives requested Vishnuvardhini to perform delivery, but she refused. In the meantime, the condition of Sridevi has deteriorated. Her relatives mounted pressure on the doctor to conduct the operation. But, unfortunately, the child died in the womb and after the operation, the doctor could bring out only the stillborn.Relatives of Sridevi and 40th division corporator S Nagamani said that the baby died due to the sheer negligence of the doctor.

“The baby would have survived if the operation was done on Wednesday itself,” the relatives alleged. On hearing this news, Rural MLA Gorantla Butchiah Chodary, city MLA Akula Satyanarayana and MLC Adireddy Apparao visited the hospital and demanded action against the doctor.
It may be mentioned here that in October month alone, eight infants have died in the Mother and Child wing of GGH. It is alleged that gynaecologist Vishnuvardhini refuses to take up delivery cases and refers them to Kakinada.
