21-yr-old hangs self in jail

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM:A 21-year-old youth arrested by Tuni Rural Police on charges of ganja smuggling allegedly committed suicide on Saturday evening in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail. The incident came to light only on Monday, when his mother cried foul while collecting the body from a hospital here. Ch Ravi from Allipudi village of East Godavari district was arrested on October 10. He was subsequently produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.

Ravi reportedly claimed he was innocent and had only taken a lift in the vehicle carrying the ganja. On October 10, a speeding Tata Indigo with five passengers onboard hit a two-wheeler coming in the opposite direction on NH 16 10 km away from Tuni town. The 35-year-old riding the two-wheeler was grievously injured. The driver of the car and the four passengers tried to flee, but three of them, including Ravi, were caught by locals. Police arrived at the scene and found ganja stashed in the vehicle. The four were taken into custody.
