Regional air connectivity set to increase from Oct.

Regional air connectivity will increase in the State from October.

Under the Regional Air Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Kadapa is already connected to Hyderabad.

Now, Kadapa will be connected to Vijayawada (by TruJet) and Chennai (by TruJet and Air Odisha) from October. Also, Visakhapatnam will be connected to Jagdalpur by Air Odisha. International operations are pending in Tirupati and Vijayawada.

Zoom Air has proposed operations touching Vijayawada from October. The government is pursuing the slot at the Mumbai airport for Zoom Air and SpiceJet. Customs & Immigrations have been approved and the airline companies need to be finalised soon.

The progress of the Orvakallu airport project is on expected lines and would be completed by June 2018. Airports across the State have shown an overall growth of 16%, as compared to last year.

It had 15.05 lakh passengers in April- August 2016, and has already recorded 17.42 lakh passengers this year.

The officials informed this to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at a review meeting on ports, airports, power and infrastructure projects at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Stating that A.P. should be ahead of all other States with regard to creation of infrastructure, Mr. Naidu asked the officials to speed up works on second runways at the Gannavaram and Rajamahendravaram airports. He also suggested exploring the possibility of constructing a new airport between Anantapur and Bengaluru. “Good air connectivity also results in significant economic growth,” he said.

Fibernet project

Referring to AP Fibernet, Mr. Naidu said that the project should be launched in October. The officials informed him that one lakh IPTV set top boxes would be readied by October and 9.40 lakh boxes would be readied by March 2018.
