Advocates of the Rajamahendravaram Bar Association and other associations in the district on Thursday abstained from court work and staged a dharna in front of the district court and the respective magistrate courts.
Addressing the protesters, State Advocates’ JAC leader and Rajamahendravaram Bar Association president Muppalla Subba Rao said 35,000 advocates in 13 districts had boycotted courts in protest against the issuance of ‘unscientific circulars by the High Court’ to lower rank judges and magistrates.
“Through these circulars the High Court is bringing pressure on legal officials to finalise cases within a few days and report the same to the High Court online. This has led to the death of four magistrates and judges in the State in one year as they could not bear the severe pressure,” Mr. Subba Rao alleged.
He said that the magistrates and judges were giving their judgments in a hurry to meet targets, which was resulting in injustice to clients.
The JAC demanded that these ‘unscientific circulars’ should be withdrawn immediately.
Rajamahendravaram Bar Association members P.R.S. Mitra, D. Ammulu, Alluri Venkatraju, Tallavala Veerendra and others participated in the dharna.
