Two students from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the Kovalam beach located in the outskirts of Chennai on Saturday.The victims were identified as Joseph Henry from Nidadavolu in West Godavari and Rakesh from Rajahmundry in East Godavari district and studied at Satyabhama University in Chennai.
The duo went to the beach along with three other friends but when they ventured into the sea, they were caught in the receding tidal waters and were swept away. The onlookers managed to rescue three of them while the other two were swept away into the deep sea. Later, rescuers recovered their bodies.
