ONGC Union seeks jobs for locals

Rajamahendravaram

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) Petroleum Employees Union demanded that employment for local youth in recruitment of class-3 and 4 posts to be given. The union leaders demanded that staff category recruitment for class-3 and 4 should be at state level only.

Addressing press conference here on Wednesday, D V Krishnam Raju, newly elected all India chief coordinator of 12 recognised unions including BMS and INTUC said the public sector companies have a  policy of giving priority to local people in recruitments, but recent guidelines of Supreme Court became a weapon for PSUs to recruit at all India level.

He said that they have opposed this move in 12 April meeting with the management of ONGC and explained that Rajamahendravaram Asset is having its operations in East, West Godavari districts and Krishna district and locals should be given priority.

Krishnam Raju also said after their meeting, the management sought 15 days time and if there is no reaction, they would build up pressure. He also demanded that 457 contract employees should be regularised who are working from last 20 to 25 years.
