One-Man Commission adjourns hearing for January 29

Rajamahendravaram: Justice Somayajulu Commission, constituted to inquire into the stampede on the first day of the Godavari Pushkaralu-2015, has postponed its hearing to January 29.


Government counsel Ch Prabhakara Rao was directed to bring all the documents with him with regard to the incident including post-mortem report of the victims who died in the mishap and reports on the injuries sustained by other pilgrims, investigation reports of different agencies and other papers.


Justice Somayajulu then asked senior advocate and AP Bar Council member Muppalla Subbarao, appearing on behalf of the victims to submit memos by Saturday on which he wants clarification from the government.


Subbarao told the Commission that video-footage submitted by the government to the Commission was an edited version and incomplete.


He sought production of the video (visuals and audio) recorded by the Information and Public Relations department. 


He also sought crowd management list submitted by the Collector and the details of budgetary allocation for bandobast, crowd management and other amenities at ghats.


Subba Rao said that he was going to file memos as per the directions of the Commission by Saturday including supporting documents.


The One-Man Commission, which was constituted on September 9, 2015, was given six months time to submit its report from the date of assuming charge. 


Justice Somayajulu assumed charge on September 29, 2015 and was given 4 extensions till now to submit its report.
