YS Jagan plans walkathon to topple Naidu

Vijayawada: YS Jaganmohan Reddy of the opposition YSRCP seems poised to follow in the footsteps of his father and former Congress chief minister the late YS Rajasekhar Reddy by launching a marathon padayatra to turn the heat on the ruling TDP government.

Jagan is currently engaged in rallies scheduled to happen in five places across the state to reach out to the people on the NDA government’s ‘broken’ promise of special category status to the truncated state.

As a first step, he addressed a programme in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. According to party sources, similar shows are being planned each at Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Guntur, Tirupati and in Kurnool or Anantapur covering all the regions in the state.

The party managers intend to organise the programmes by maintaining a gap of two to three months from programme to programme and sustain momentum thereby for a year.

In the meantime, the party MPs may be asked to resign from their posts after the budget session so as to push the TDP-BJP ruling combine into a corner on the special category status issue.

This was stated by Jagan himself during an interaction with the NRIs on his Sakshi TV channel and at a public meeting in Kurnool a few days back.

“Padayatra is only a rough idea as of now. It will definitely happen sooner or later,” a source close to Jagan told The Hans India.

However, the padayatra proposal gaining momentum in the party hierarchy even as Jagan is yet to give his nod with regard to preparing roadmap, schedule and the place of launching.
