‘Wall of happiness’ programme launched

Rajamahendravaram: The revenue department and Municipal Corporation of Rajamahendravaram (MCR) launched a novel programme on Thursday for the benefit of poor and titled it as ‘Wall of Happiness’ on the eve of Deepavali. Under this programme, people who don’t use new clothes for different reasons or some old clothes can give it to the MCR and the same will be distributed to poor on the eve of Deepavali. 

Speaking to mediapersons, Sub-Collector Vijaya Krishnan and Commissioner V Vijayaramaraju said that in this three-day programme, poor people can select their clothes under the supervision of municipal and revenue staff without any duplication. 

Vijaya Krishnan said that all the clothes collected from the public will be washed properly, stitched and hanged at Pushkara ghats and will be supplied as per their wish. She also mentioned that one of her batch-mate in Maharashtra had successfully introduced this programme in her area. JCI, Swarnandhra, Sunrise and other NGOs came forward to support this programme, Commissioner said. 

Meanwhile, Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, who launched this programme at Pushkara Ghats, announced that he will be distributing new clothes to poor from Sankranti as part of the programme. He congratulated Sub-Collector for taking up this new and innovative programme and said that people can also handover unused food at Pushkar ghat counters of MCR. 

He recalled that during marriages, lot of food is being wasted, which can be handed over at these new counters. Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai, MLC Adireddy Apparao, Deputy Mayor Vasireddy Rambabu, RTO Siri Anand and others participated in the programme.Read More…
